About the USA / Olympic Shooting Event

  • It is shot standing, offhand, with no supports.
  • There are no shooting coats or gloves used.
  • No scopes or dot sights are allowed.
  • It is one of the Olympic shooting sports.
  • It is sometimes referred to as free pistol.
  • Shooters typically use .22 caliber single shot pistols of European or Russian manufacture.
  • These are specialized pistols with individualized fitted grips and set triggers.
  • Shooters may use other .22 caliber pistols, but they must be loaded one shot at a time.
  • The course of fire is 60 shots, fired in three 20 shot strings each lasting 35 minutes.
  • Targets are scored after each 20 shot string.
  • There is an 18 minute sighting-in period prior to competition where shooters can fire an unlimited number of sighter shots.
  • These are club matches and not nationally sanctioned matches.
